We’ve all heard it: “Intimacy with God.”

It’s one of those phrases that gets thrown around in church culture, on social media, and in worship songs. But here’s the thing—when I went looking for it in the Bible, I couldn’t find it. Somewhere along the way, we’ve clung to this lingo because it sounds deep, but have we stopped to ask if it’s even biblical.

Maybe it’s time we stop chasing Christian lingo and start chasing Christ Himself.

In this week’s episode, I’m unpacking what this phrase really means, why we gravitate toward buzzwords in Christian culture, and what Scripture actually calls us to when it comes to knowing God.

THIS WEEK’S SACRED SOUL NOTE…

Bible Delight

…yet for some reason we struggle to pick it up - His Holy book.

We don’t see the value in it the way we do a 6-week workout plan or SMART goals for our business for the year.

We will spend hours on those things; hours a day sometimes.

What if we saw that much value in His love for us?

What if we saw that much value in His delight?

This week’s scripture:

“O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You understand my thoughts from afar.”

— Psalm 139:1-4 (NKJV)

JOURNAL PROMPT:

When you hear the phrase “intimacy with God,” what comes to mind for you? Is it a feeling, a picture, a practice—or something deeper?

Follow-up Questions:

  1. Where do you think your understanding of “intimacy with God” comes from—Scripture, church culture, books, or music?

  2. When you look at passages like Psalm 139:1–4 or John 15:15, how does the Bible describe closeness with God differently from how we talk about it today?

  3. Have you ever felt pressure to feel close to God in order to prove your faith? What did that reveal about where your trust was placed?

  4. If intimacy is action-oriented—obedience, listening, honesty, and community—what’s one practical way you can pursue that this week?

  5. How might shifting from chasing a feeling to pursuing real knowledge of God change your walk with Him?

Desire prayer this week? (tbh, your answer should always be yes)
