We’ve all been there—you sit down with your Bible, read a few verses, and walk away thinking, “I didn’t get anything out of that.”

The truth? The Bible isn’t just ink on paper. It’s God’s living Word. And if we approach it in the flesh, we’ll miss the Spirit who inspired it.

We should do more than read the Word; we should see it as a time to be present with the Author.

In this week’s episode, I’m unpacking how to study Scripture in a way that’s Spirit-led, Christ-centered, and transformative.

THIS WEEK’S SACRED SOUL NOTE…

For God so loved…

I pray we submit to the fruit of the Spirit that is self-control in the moments we want to dog the world and not love it.

When we talk with a venomous tongue about how broken the world is.

When we spew annoyance at the world’s selfishness, evil, and hatred.

We should hate the evil that is produced - not the world itself - and control our tongues in how we speak about it as Christians.

This week’s scripture:

WITH THE TONGUE WE PRAISE OUR LORD AND FATHER, AND WITH IT WE CURSE HUMAN BEINGS, WHO HAVE BEEN MADE IN GOD’S LIKENESS. OUT OF THE SAME MOUTH COME PRAISE AND CURSING. MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THIS SHOULD NOT BE”

— JAMES 3:9-10 (NIV)

JOURNAL PROMPT:

When was the last time you asked the Holy Spirit to help you understand God’s Word before opening your Bible?

Follow-up Questions:

  1. What’s the difference between reading the Bible for information versus reading it for transformation?

  2. How does remembering that all of Scripture points to Christ (Colossians 1:16–17) change the way you approach it?

  3. What’s one new tool (BibleHub, Blue Letter Bible, Logos, a study Bible, or community) you can try this week to help deepen your study?

  4. How would your daily walk with God look different if you saw Scripture not as a checklist, but as a conversation with the Living God?

Desire prayer this week? (tbh, your answer should always be yes)
